- There is a growing risk of extreme flooding on the West Coast, despite the fact that they are currently suffering from a megadrought. To increase resilience to extreme weather, disaster planning, flood insurance, efficient water use, water reuse, and engaging the public must be prioritized. The current storm in California has been called "the most impressive storm since January 5–7, 2005."
- Jackson, Mississippi is suffering from its third water outage in two years caused by aging and underfunded infrastructure. All 33 of Jackson's schools remained closed for the first day back from the holiday break due to the low water pressure all over the city.
- Wastewater samples from 28 out of 29 flights in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia collected from June to December 31, 2022, were found to contain SARS-CoV-2. The airplane wastewater testing is a part of Malaysia's COVID-19 environmental surveillance program where sewage water is tested in a range of different locations.
- After a water main break in Midland, dirty water entered the treatment process and officials announced a boil-water notice. The notice was in effect for two days, from January 12 to 14.
