Position Description

The purpose of this position is to perform complex hydrologic, modeling, and water resources engineering studies for the Brazos River Authority (BRA). This is accomplished by conducting computer modeling of water resources applications; analyzing hydrologic engineering studies; and providing engineering oversight. Other responsibilities include managing various projects as part of a team; directing reservoir and flood operations; and any other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manages various projects as part of a team by performing complex engineering calculations and statistical analysis of hydrologic records, including stream flow and reservoir data; interpreting computer modeling results; coordinatingwith other agencies, engineers, and financial and legal consultants; and organizing meetings.

Conducts computer modeling of water resources applications by developing specialty computer algorithms and numeric programming techniques; developing computer models for the basin to simulate stream flow, reservoir inflows, water availability, water hydropower generation, and other water resources applications; writing technical reports; and performing complex engineering calculations.

Analyzes hydrologic engineering studies by reading and understanding technical reports; interpreting complex computer modeling results; analyzing engineering data; making recommendations; and writing various reports for other departments.

Provides customer service/engineering oversight by reviewing engineering proposals for other departments; making recommendations on engineering proposals; and completing other duties as assigned.

Directs flood operations by performing engineering calculations; directing gate operations and releases; preparesreports and briefings for meetings; monitoring stream flow and reservoir conditions; and maintaining availability for on-call emergencies.

Coordinates internally and externally with state and federal agencies and legal staff regarding in-stream flow recommendations and permitting.

Operates water supply reservoirs to deliver water to contracted customers and pass flood waters during flood events by coordinating with the River Forecast Center of the National Weather Service, United States Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and Brazos Electric Power Cooperative during reservoir flood operations.

Manages grant projects for the Lower Basin Salinity Monitoring which includes external coordination with consultants and state agencies.

Position Salary

$92,959 to $120,847

Position Minimum Experience

- Minimum eight years' experience
- Registered Professional Engineer's License
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) - A postgraduate Master of Science degree is awarded by universities for successful completion of studies related to technology, engineering, hydrology, statistics, environmental science, natural resource management, healthcare, and social sciences, in addition to the traditional sciences.
