Value of Water 2021: Making Waves

Website Events 09

Was your utility affected by Winter Storm Uri? Or did you manage to escape SNOW-VID damage in February but are wondering whether your luck will last?

In our great state spanning almost 300,000 square miles, Texans can experience a vast range of emergency situations at any time. Whether it’s drought, flooding, fire, or freeze, the question is not “if” but “when” something similar will happen to you. Are you prepared to maintain not only your operations, but your utility’s reputation and relationship with your local community when the next storm hits?

WEAT and TAWWA are bringing together utility representatives to share their recent experience behind the scenes of a major emergency -- Winter Storm Uri. Members from as far north as Lubbock and as far south as McAllen will discuss strategies used before, during, and after the storm to manage expectations and maintain goodwill with the general public. These lessons can be adapted to utilities and situations of all sizes to enhance your overall community engagement.

Be prepared. Join us on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM to learn from fellow members and brace your utility for the next big event.

Speakers include:

  • Aubrey Spear, Director of Water Utilities, City of Lubbock
  • Mark Vega, General Manager, McAllen Public Utility
  • Trino Pedraza, Director of Municipal Utilities and Construction, City of Galveston
  • Mary Gugliuzza, Media Relations and Communications Coordinator - Water, City of Fort Worth
