This presentation discusses odors from the collection system and treatment plant and the various mitigation alternatives. The different types of odors will be discussed, from the dangerous rotten egg-smelling hydrogen sulfide (H2S) to the putrid fishy methyl amine (CH3NH2), where they come from and how best to capture and treat them with the various types of processes and equipment. The use of chemicals in the collection system or treatment plant will also be presented, along with how the chemical addition does its job (preventer, binder, oxidizer, or phase changer) and where best to apply the chemicals. A deep dive into the slime layers of pipes and structures will discuss how the odor compound H2S makes its way through and corrodes your concrete away.
