ATTENTION: Texas students in kindergarten through 6th grade!
Get out your crayons, markers, paints, and paper! The Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) and the Texas American Water Works Association (TAWWA) need your creativity for the 2023 Imagine a Day Without Water Art Contest.
Why are we doing this?
Imagine a Day Without Water (IDWW) is a national campaign to raise awareness of the value of water in our lives. As the leading water/wastewater professional organizations in Texas, WEAT and TAWWA organized this annual art contest to engage the next generation and encourage them to be environmental stewards. We hope you will see this as an opportunity to combine your lessons on environmental science and the water cycle with artistic projects to spur discussion and creativity. Imagine a Day Without Water is on October 19, 2023 (https://imagineadaywithoutwater.org/).
How does it work?
We ask that you incorporate the art contest into your lesson on its own or as part of another water-based activity. This could be a short activity or a longer project in which learners add to their artwork over time. Because water is an essential resource, there are no limits to the topics you can discuss, and we have provided some resources within this packet. When your activities are complete, please send the artwork to us for judging by October 27, 2023.
We suggest that teachers/educators coordinate the artwork and entry forms for their class to ensure the best educational experience and discussion about the importance of water. If you are a K-6th grade Texas educator, please fill out this Teacher Interest Form so that we can recognize you as a contest partner: https://forms.gle/pDfZmeAF9kwKpLfMA
However, individuals can still enter the contest! Send your materials by mail/email to Nyla Langford (details in the information packet) or, if you have a Google account, you can use the online entry form.
Requirements:
- Artwork must be developed by a Texas student in kindergarten through 6th grade (homeschool and individual entries are welcome – entry is not required to be part of a school or class activity)

- Only one entry per student is allowed
- Must include a completed entry form
- Entries must be submitted using 8.5”x11” size paper in a horizontal layout (landscape)
