2022 Imagine a Day Without Water Art Contest

Website Events 56

ATTENTION: Texas students in kindergarten through 6th grade!

Get out your crayons, markers, paints, and paper! The Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) and the Texas American Water Works Association (TAWWA) need your creativity for the 2022 Imagine a Day Without Water Art Contest.

Theme: What does water do for you?
Water is truly amazing. It is found almost everywhere, can assume any shape, and forms in various states. Water can be a solid block of ice, a hot cloud of steam, and of course a cool liquid that refreshes and replenishes. Water is powerful enough to light up cities through hydroelectric power and so mighty that it can carve gorgeous canyons into the earth. Water can cool and clean us but can also heat and dirty us.
Of all the things water can do, what is it that you are thankful for that water can do for you?

Why are we doing this?

Imagine a Day Without Water (IDWW) is a national campaign to raise awareness of the value of water in our lives. As the leading water/wastewater professional organizations in Texas, WEAT and TAWWA organized this annual art contest to engage the next generation and encourage them to be environmental stewards. We hope you will see this as an opportunity to combine your lessons on environmental science and the water cycle with artistic projects to spur discussion and creativity. Imagine a Day Without Water is on October 20, 2022 (https://imagineadaywithoutwater.org/).

How does it work?

We ask that you incorporate the art contest into your lesson on its own or as part of another water-based activity. This could be a short activity or a longer project in which learners add to their artwork over time. Because water is an essential resource, there are no limits to the topics you can discuss, and we have provided some resources within this packet. When your activities are complete, please send the artwork to us for judging by October 31, 2022.

Requirements:

  • Artwork must be developed by a Texas student in kindergarten through 6th grade (homeschool and individual entries are welcome – entry is not required to be part of a school or class activity)
  • Artwork must be original (no copyrighted products or images)
  • Only one entry per student allowed
  • Must include a completed entry form
  • Entries must be submitted using 8.5”x11” size paper in a horizontal layout (landscape)
  • Do NOT write your name on the front of the artwork
  • CONDITIONS: The artwork must relate to the theme above. Late entries will not be judged. Any entry that does not adhere to the rules will not be judged.
  • MEDIA RELEASE: The artwork will become the property of the WEAT/AWWA. All submitted artwork may be featured in WEAT and AWWA publications and social media platforms.

Prizes

  • Up to 12 overall winners will be selected, and their artwork will be featured in the annual WEAT/TAWWA Imagine a Day Without Water Calendar for the upcoming year (2023)
  • Winners chosen for the calendar will also receive a prize
  • Special prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place winners (The 2021 prize was a 6-month KiwiCo subscription)
