Position Description

Under the direction of the Wastewater Plant Manager, the person in this role is responsible for supervising, directing, and coordinating various installation, repair, and maintenance tasks. They are required to work from blueprints and schematics, plan and assign work for themselves and others, ensure that work specifications comply with all applicable codes, estimate, and purchase necessary materials, and oversee the correct installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical systems and equipment following established trade methods and procedures.

Assume the role of Wastewater Plant Manager as required.

Work collaboratively with the Operations Supervisor to ensure optimal utilization of employees and available resources.

Assist with the preparation of bid specifications and obtain quotes for maintenance projects and equipment.

Plan, organize, assign, and supervise the work of maintenance personal, including daily work schedules and special projects.

Supervise the safety training, tasks, and advancement of employees.

Oversee project safety and investigate any incidents involving employees.

Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, charts, maintenance manuals, and specifications.

Work with engineers and contractors to plan and see projects through to completion.

Work with Microsoft Excel and CMMS to maintain plant databases and reporting. This includes adjusting Excel pages and formulas to meet changing needs.

Assist the Wastewater Plant Manager in managing the annual department budget.

Oversee purchasing equipment, parts, and supplies for inventory or immediate use.

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.

Work outside normal working hours as needed to correct any problems that arise within the wastewater plants. This includes responding to emergency call-ins, which can occur any time, day, or night.

Work cooperatively with other departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve problems.

Maintain and diagnose system problems involving electrical, control systems, pumping, and the activated sludge process.

Notify Wastewater Plant Manager, emergency coordinator and other plant authorities as necessary in emergency situations.

Ensure all work complies with NEC, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards and regulations.

Must know and follow safety instructions and maintain housekeeping procedures.

Position Salary

$65,146 - $82,243

Position Notes

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Frequent work performed outside or with exposure to risk including exposure to hazardous chemicals, raw sewage, communicable diseases, loud or constant noise, electricity, humidity, wetness, extreme temperatures, heights, odors, gases, mists, confined spaces, climbing ladders, cramped spaces, and inherent construction related hazards. Position is subject to 24-hour call out, 365 days per year.

Position Minimum Experience

High School Diploma and a Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.

Five or more years’ experience in advanced industrial plant maintenance and repair at a wastewater treatment facility.

Texas Journeyman in a mechanical or electrical trade

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Qualifications

Preferred Education

Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Technology Engineering, or related area.
